General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer

Position OverviewKey Responsibilities
Legal Leadership:
Serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and board of directors.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, loan documents, and partnership agreements.
Manage litigation and disputes, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including those specific to the manufactured housing and financial services industries.
Provide legal oversight on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring activities.
Develop and implement corporate governance policies and ensure compliance with them.
Compliance Oversight:
Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive compliance program aligned with applicable regulations, including but not limited to CFPB, HUD, and other financial regulatory bodies.
Monitor and assess regulatory changes affecting manufactured housing and financial services and ensure organizational adherence.
Conduct compliance audits, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on compliance policies and procedures.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and manage audits, examinations, and inquiries.
Risk Management:
Identify legal and compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Establish and maintain a risk management framework, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Advise on matters related to intellectual property, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead and mentor legal and compliance teams, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and sales, to align legal and compliance strategies with business goals.
Serve as a strategic partner in decision-making, providing legal and compliance perspectives on business initiatives.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Minimum 8–10 years of legal experience, with a focus on financial services, manufactured housing, or real estate.
Experience in a dual role as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations governing financial services and manufactured housing, including CFPB, RESPA, HUD, and state licensing laws.
Strong expertise in contract negotiation, corporate law, and compliance program development.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels.
