Job Description
JOIN THE MISSION: Hospitality with Purpose
At 7th Floor Hospitality Group, we don’t just serve food and drink; we serve moments. Flossmoor Social is a space where community and creativity meet, and where each guest interaction is an opportunity to turn the ordinary into something unforgettable. Inspired by Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara, we believe the smallest gestures can have the greatest impact, and that true hospitality starts with being present, thoughtful, and relentlessly generous in how we serve.
ROLE SUMMARY
As a Host, your mission is simple: make every guest feel like they were expected, like this moment was created just for them. You are the orchestrator of flow, the concierge of connection, and the one who ensures that no guest ever goes unnoticed. Whether it’s remembering a returning guest’s name or walking someone to their table with intention, you are in the business of transforming transactions into relationships.
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Guest Reception & Engagement • Greet with Grace: Welcome every guest immediately and sincerely. Make eye contact, smile, and speak with warmth.
• Anticipate Needs: Offer water during waits, pull out chairs, provide menus — always go one step beyond what’s expected.
• Manage Reservations & Waitlist: Use the reservation system (Spot On) to seat guests in a smooth, fair, and timely manner.
• Create Memorable First Impressions: Learn and use guest names. Offer congratulations, birthday wishes, or acknowledgments when applicable.
• Guest Flow: Maintain awareness of the floor plan and pacing of tables to minimize wait times and optimize energy in the space.
Team Collaboration & Communication • Communicate with Servers & Managers: Provide accurate table updates, pacing cues, running food and beverage, and VIP notifications.
• Support During Peak Times: Assist in pre- & post-bussing, guest check-ins, special occasion setups, running food & beverages, and more when needed.
• Be the Calm in the Chaos: During high-volume moments, maintain poise and be a grounding energy for the team and guests.
Qualifications:
Traits for a Host of Intentional Hospitality • Empathetic Communicator: You listen first, respond thoughtfully, and make people feel heard.
• Self-Aware Professional: You know how to read the room, stay calm under pressure, and take feedback with grace.
• Hospitality-Obsessed: You find joy in making someone else’s day better, no matter how small the gesture.
• Humble Confidence: You take pride in your role but understand that hospitality is never about you, it’s about the guest. • Naturally Warm: Your smile is real. Your words are genuine. Guests feel better just by talking to you.
• Emotionally Intelligent: You know when a guest wants conversation and when they want space.
• Detail-Oriented: You remember names, allergies, seating preferences — and you use that information to elevate experiences.
• Time-Aware: You have the ability to manage multiple guests, reservations, and priorities calmly and efficiently.
Skills & Qualifications • Experience: Prior hosting or customer service experience preferred, but your attitude matters more than your résumé.
• Tech Friendly: Comfortable using reservation systems and POS software (training provided).
• Flexible Schedule: Must be available nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Physical Readiness: Able to stand and walk for extended periods and assist with occasional light lifting or moving.
