Job Description
As the Finance Director, you will play a vital role in overseeing the financial health and operations of the organization. Your expertise will ensure sound fiscal management, compliance with regulations, and strategic financial planning that aligns with the organization's mission. This hybrid position offers a balance of remote work and in-person collaboration, providing flexibility while fostering strong communication and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Partner with executive leadership and the board of directors to develop and manage the annual budget.
Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and expense management.
Ensure the timely preparation and presentation of financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
Compliance and Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings and audits.
Maintain accurate records for all financial transactions and ensure adherence to internal controls.
Collaborate with external auditors for annual financial audits.
Strategic Planning:
Provide financial insights and recommendations to the executive team to guide decision-making and strategic direction.
Evaluate and implement financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Team Collaboration:
Assist program staff with budgeting, grant compliance, and financial reporting.
Serve as the financial liaison to the board of directors, preparing and presenting regular updates to the finance committee.
Provide training and mentorship to staff, helping to promote financial literacy across the organization.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
Proficiency in financial software, such as QuickBooks, SAGE Intacct, and advanced Excel skills.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and grant management.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Working Conditions: This hybrid role requires a mix of remote work and in-person attendance at the office in Montgomery, AL. Occasional travel for meetings and events may also be required.
